A single black rhino cow has been wandering around a camp in Swaziland with no mate. The plan was to introduce two black rhinos, Kalusho and Tsororo from the Frankfurt zoo as part of the Swazi black rhino conservation initiative. These two rhinos originate from the Zambezi Valley in Zimbabwe. These genes were critical to enhance the genetic integrity of the Swazi black rhino population. After years of negotiation Frankfurt zoo unilaterally cancelled the arrangement at the last moment. It is inconceivable that this disgraceful decision was made with no compensation being made for the expenses incurred. There are no plans to breed these animals so they will spend their last days languishing in the zoo living with inadequate accommodation.

However in February 2014 two bulls were introduced from the existing population so breeding has commenced!
